the friday five: favorite collections so far.

even with the collections popping up on the usual sites or via livestream, it was hard keeping up after coming back from nyc. i've spent the last week catching up and here are some of my favorites from what's been shown so far:

1. narciso rodriguez: modernity with a twist has always been rodriguez's motto, and this season, it was also sexy, with sliced slipdresses and slit-down-to-there shirts. everything, from the suiting to the floaty colorblocked dresses, to the accessories was so on point and so what i want to wear right now (as in, i don't want to wait until spring!)

2. victoria beckham: beckham has slowly built her brand from dresses to separates to accessories and this collection was a culmination of that hard work. simple silhouettes in solid colors, like shirtdresses with mesh panels, a-line skirt suits, and high waist pants paired with flat sandals (designed by manolo blahnik) somehow made the line seem less lofty.

3. derek lam: trends have run the gamut from nineties to twenties to sixties, but lam was in a seventies sort of mood. craft was the name of the game, and no one did it better than him. the sweatshirts with the pailette skirts were a favorite look of mine.

4. marissa webb: webb, the former head of women's design of j.crew, was probably one of the most anticipated collections of the season, and she did not disappoint. the looks had a uptown/downtown vibe, like tweed short suits mixed in with leather bermuda shorts, white wide leg tuxedo pants and an all red suit with skinny ankle zip pants. i really can't wait to see these looks up close and personal.

5. phillip lim: the nineties are back, but in a more grown up way. the collection was inspired by "cut-up," a dada technique that was also adopted by musicians and kids dressing in the grunge era. lace, plaid, colorblock and leopard & other prints were all there, and they all combined for a fun collection with some standout pieces.
