sensory overload.

vogue paris has a habit of staging epic studio editorials. they did twice in 2005 (both shot by david sims), and they have devoted entire issues to one model (lara stone) and one photographer. for the august issue, they turned the reins over to perennial favorites inez van lamsweerde and vinoodh matadin and let them loose over 65 pages--a different designer on each--styled by carine roitfeld, joe mckenna, and emmanuelle alt. the model lineup has i&v regulars like daria werbowy (who looks fetching on the cover in burberry), raquel zimmerman, malgosia bela, anja rubik, and lily donaldson mixed with newer faces sessilee lopez, kamila filipcikova, lara stone, dree hemingway and ranya mordanova. the good: the mix of the models, the energy in a studio ed, and the variety of designers. the bad: there's tommy hilfiger but no lacroix?

renegade profile: sourdough

one of the old friends i was happy to see at the renegade craft fair was sourdough, the line of clothing and accessories made by annie wilson of poetic and chic. annie, a san francisco native, uses vintage barkcloth and repurposes it into cute jackets, dishtowels, belts, pillows and eyemasks. you can even check out her site and see her new fabrics and custom create you own piece. annie looked craft-fair ready in an edie jacket, and i loved checking out her entire collection.

jackets come in three styles, the balloon sleeve edie, the short sleeve eileen and the long sleeve mod-ish nini (named for the aunt who encouraged annie's love of sewing). she also debuted a line of sash belts, crafted with bakelite buckles.

being that i love anything monogrammed, i have the ampersand monogram dishtowel, which is so gorgeous, i don't want to use it! i just told annie the colors i wanted and she picked a great vintage fabric. the dishtowels also come in single, double and triple letters which are all embroidered on a 100% cotton flour sack. i also got a sleepytime mask in a neutral geometric pattern, perfect for my boy. with a black silk charmeuse back and filled with lavender and makes an elegant companion on any long flight.

you can purchase sourdough products from the etsy shop, or stop by the sourdough booth at the renegade craft fair tomorrow where you can find annie, probably looking smashing in sourdough!

city of renegades.

today was the second renegade craft fair at ft. mason and i went down there to check out some old friends and to see some new crafty-ness, and i was not disappointed.

first off, i noticed that there were more people this time around than last year, and that there were more booths than before. while this could have meant that the rcf was getting soft, it didn't--all the talent there was solid and ranged from clothing and jewelry to letterpress stationery, kids accessories and housewares.

one of my first stops was to loyalty and blood from brooklyn. i first saw some of their pieces at therapy on valencia street, and have become a fan of their repurposed jewelry and silkscreened letter totes. at the fair, they not only had those pieces but also some cool necklaces and t-shirts with graphics like barking dogs and declassified FBI files.

campfire goods makes t-shirts that help you celebrate your homestate, whether it's the city of stumps (portland, oregon) or if you say pop and not soda. i found a few shirts about philadelphia (city of crack) as well as some that called out my love of sans serif typefaces. all tees are screenprinted by hand, and most come in men's and women's styles.

sara paloma is a potter originally from southern california now based in emeryville who makes gorgeous stoneware bottles, matte vases and nesting bowls. the nesting bowls would make a great wedding or housewarming gift...

lucy machine's jewelry is inspired by rocks and crystalline structure and she works in stainless steel and sterling silver to create pieces that are at once organic and architectural. i couldn't resist the "hoop" earrings...can't wait to wear them out!

other things that caught my eye today:

mateo ilasco's
mini terrariums

funny t-shirts and hoodies by the girl and the rhino (based in oakland)

wonder thunder's mini toast pocket friends

the renegade craft fair is free and continues at ft. mason tomorrow afternoon from 11am to 7pm. stop by and check out some of the artisans above, or check out the rcf site to see what other vendors are there.

rebel yell.

i have been a very, very busy bee...but i will post a couture wrap up in the next day or so. in the meantime, read the interview i did with the man behind the sartoralist, scott schuman at monochrome magazine by the man beind justjr (while you're there, read pieces with christian lacroix and genevieve jones).
